Geriatric problems are one of the biggest issues in present India. A report released by the United Nations Population Fund and Help Age India suggests that the number of elderly persons is expected to grow to 173 million by 2026. Considering this we are organizing a training on ‘Geriatric Care and Counselling’. Geriatric care management is the process of planning and coordinating care of the elderly and others with physical and/or mental impairments to meet their long term care needs, improve their quality of life, and maintain their independence for as long as possible. It entails working with persons of old age and their families in managing, rendering and referring various types of health and social care services.

The training will be conducted in online/offline mode. Target group of the training are elderly people, family members, trainers and care givers. In the care part, there will be three major observations i.e. ‘Health’, ‘Nutrition’, and ‘Psychosocial care’ of old age. We will address the problems affecting geriatric health, nutritional hazards and psychosocial adjustments an elderly people deals with. The other part of the training will focus on ‘Geriatric Counselling’, the need for a geriatric counsellor and how they provide physical and psychological assessment services for older adults. Along with counselling, direct care, treatment for mental health issues and assistance with problems interfering with a senior's quality of life will also be discussed to improve the living status of an old age person. At the beginning and at the end pre and post evaluation will be taken respectively from the trainees to get a clear idea of their understandings.
